Challenge Intro:

Please note:
All you need for this section is your host computer and one VM
I will be using VSC code in the section, if you want to have a similar experience go ahead and checkout the following lecture:

  • Section 2 Lesson 9 called “Setting up Visual Studio Code for PowerShell”
I installed VSC on my host computer.

You will need to perform the following prerequisites:

  • Section 14 Lesson 64 called “Enabling  PSRemoting with Group Policy.
For remoting between just a host to a VM (no domain) use video time 3:02-7:10 of lesson 64.
  • Create a VM with virtual box or Hyper-v (be sure you can ping your VM)
  • To follow the challenges, name the VM VSC1
  • Understand that any of these one-liners will work in PowerShell ISE or Visual Studio code.
  • We will be using both Applications in this section.
  • Feel free to use the VM’s that you have already created in the lab section, or you can use your host computer and a Windows 10 VM that you setup in Virtual box or Hyper-V.
  • Just remember, if you want to access a computer in an Active Directory domain you will need to specify domain credentials, for example:
To access a remote computer in a domain you would use the following command.  You would replace Domain with the name of your domain.
  • If you are having difficulties remoting into your VM check out the last lecture named PSRemoting Troubleshooting – Possible fixes

    Enter-PSSession -ComputerName VSC1 -Credential Domain\Username
  • Here is a link to Windows 10 1904 ISO – It’s an older version but it will work just fine for loading on your VM.
